Mount Edwin Methodist Church, Oregon Road, Woodford County, KY

On the opposite side of he river from my home is another beautiful country church, Mt Edwin Methodist Church.  The drive through the country from Versailles out US 33 to Fords Mill Road then Patterson Road on to Oregon Road will put you into the mood to woship our Lord.  The drive is spectecular in every season, in the spring with all the new baby animals and the new foilage on the trees and throughout the fall season with the changing of the leaves and the scenic views every direction can only make your belief in our Lord stronger. Who else could have painted this striking panorama but a creator.

Although I have never entered this church  I do have family and friends that have invited me to attend.  The church does have a concrete wheechair accessible ramp up to the front porch.  Facing the church you will encounter a small step up on the first door but the second door has a ramp without a step, makin easy access for regular wheelchairs and electric models also.

They have also built a nice wheelchair accessible shelter over to the side of the church for dinners, and social gatherings.

I ask and you do have sit in the aisle or at the front of the church in your wheelchair during services.

My wheelchair accessiblity rating from 1 to 10 (being the highest).  9

Ebeneer Church of Christ, Cummins Ferry Road, Salvisa, Kentucky

Ebenezer Church of Christ is a wonderful little country church with a nicely kept older cemetary right out the front door.  I have been fortunate to have been to this church with my grandchildren for Vacation Bible School and actually was blessed to see one of my  Grandsons baptized there.  The drive down Cummins Ferry Road off US 127 to this church is very scenic and the congregation is loving, supportive and just good people to be around.

When I first fell and became a paraplegic they were one of the first churches to come to my aid and assstance.  They have shown love for my family and I by being at the hospital during my surgery and keeping a prayer vigil going for my recovery.  They have come and visited during my recovery, brought the carolers at Christmas to brighten my holidays, and offered assitance whenever they thought I might be in need.

Anyone in need of a church might check into the Ebenezer Church of Christ to find a fulfilling Christ family to join.

Now to my wheelchair accesibility.  Ebenezer has a lovely ramp which is easy access to the porch of the church.  That is where the problem comes in for people in wheelchairs and the purpose of my blogs.  When you get to the top of the ramp and to the front door there is a eight to ten inch step up into the church.  While the men in the congregation and the minister are more than delighted to help you into the church and help you in any way that they can, it is fairly uncomforable for someone that is going to church by themselves to make this step.  With an electric model chair, which sometimes weights 250 lbs. plus the person sitting in the chair, it can make it very difficult to manipulate.  Although wheelchair users are taught to pop up on the back wheel and hop down off an eight inch curb.....I tried it once and almost got ran over by a bus because I lacked the ability to stop my forward thust and winded up out in the middle of the road...I believe the same thing would happen to anyone hopping off the stoop of Ebenezer, thus winding up going down a large set of steps.

Once inside the church you must sit up in front of the first pews or out in the aisle.  This is slightly uncomfortable to me as I prefer sitting with my loved ones or friends.  The best way for this to happen is to have a shorter pew with enough room for a wheelchair at the end...not in the aisle.

My rating from 1 to 10 for this churhes accessibility is 8.
